Commodus Period (180-192 AD)

Commodus, born in Lanuvium on August 31, 161 in Italy and died in Rome on December 31, 192, was a Roman emperor who reigned from 180 to 192.

Son of Marcus Aurelius and Faustina the Younger who gave him thirteen children, including the twin brother of Commodus, who died in 165. He was the only non-adopted emperor of this dynasty.

Commodus is associated with power as early as 166 as Caesar, along with his younger brother, Annius Verus. The latter died three years later, leaving Commodus as the sole heir to the Empire.

The emperor dreamed of himself as a gladiator; he descends into the arena to defeat gladiators and beasts. His image is that of a cruel and bloodthirsty emperor.

On December 31, 192, the Emperor Commodus, renowned for his violence, was assassinated by his mistress Marcia. She tries to poison him, then she has him strangled by his slave.
